Arctic Monkeys: Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino Tour Hits Vancouver

tranquility base hotel + casino tour in vancouver
The Arctic Monkeys return to Vancouver! One of my favourite bands ever, debuting songs from their most recent album, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino.

I love the Arctic Monkeys. They’re all over my blog. I love Alex Turner. I love his The Last Shadows Puppets side project with Miles Kane. Musically, they can do no wrong, however, (and I may be in the minority here), their AM album is not my favourite. Sure, it’s their most commercial album to date, breaking through North American charts. And yes, it has plentiful top 40 bangers on it, namely R U Mine?, Do I Wanna Know?, Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?, One for the Road, Arabella, and Snap Out of It, but I don’t think it’s their best album. RZA: Live from the 36th Chamber of Shaolin Hits Vancouver

RZA Live from 36th chamber of shaolin at VIFF promo poster
Every year, Sean and I try to see at least one movie at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). The most recent one was David Lynch The Art Life, which I had helped back via Kickstarter. But this, this was new! Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA bringing the ruckus to the Orpheum with his presentation of RZA: Live from the 36th Chamber of Shaolin!

RZA live scoring a classic Shaw Bros. kung fu movie using Wu-Tang’s 20 year catalogue of hip hop beats? Oh, hells yeah.

I attended the inaugural VR/AR Global Summit Conference, held at the Parq Hotel and Casino, and got a crash course and an eye-opening glimpse of all the cool tech currently being used or developed in the virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) space.

The 2 day conference featured speakers from HTC Vive, TELUS, Mayo Clinic, Intel, Ford, Adobe, Amazon, and Microsoft. There were lots to take in, what with keynotes, panels, workshops, exhibits and demos.

Erasure: World Be Gone Tour Hits Vancouver

The last time I saw Erasure in concert was 1990 for their Wild! tour. I believe that may have been their only time they came to Vancouver and I remember it as being fun as all heck.

This time around the venue was more intimate, the crowd was much older and like the New Order concert four years ago, we all fell head long into a musical time capsule and danced our collective asses off, while belting out the songs along with Andy Bell.

A Weekend At The Painted Boat Resort Spa + Marina

Sometimes you don’t need to get on a plane to feel like you’re hundreds of miles away from Vancouver. All you need to do is hit one of the many island getaways in BC.

Instead of heading to Seattle or other parts of Washington, play tourists in your own backyard! We’ve had memorable weekender trips to Galiano Island, as well as, Qualicum Beach and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

But our favourite BC island getaway to escape to has to be the Sunshine Coast.
