Thank the ceiling for Stay Vancouver’s gift card promotion!
It is the reason why I can book all the 4 or 5 star hotel stays that I do. The promotion incentivizes locals to book a stay at any of the participating downtown Vancouver hotels during low (and sometimes early shoulder) season. In doing so, guests will get up to $125 Mastercard gift card (previously Visa gift card), which you can use towards dining, shopping, or you apply it to your room charge – which I always do.

Made of high density corrugated cardboard, it was super easy and fun to assemble. Like an Ikea flat pack but for your furry children.
I didn’t look forward to turning 30.
I hella didn’t look forward to turning 40.
But I always looked forward to turning 50. I had plans for an epic trip + waking up in a city other than Vancouver on my birthday. Also, throwing myself a big banger, half-century celebration.
Neither of that happened this past month.
Birthday celebrations continue!
I know it’s not been that long since I treated myself to a stay at the Loden Hotel, but since it is a milestone year and Stay Vancouver’s promotion offered a deep discount on downtown hotels, it was a no-brainer. I guess you can say this was a birthday present to myself.
Since travel is still not encouraged (and at your own risk), my dreams of waking up in a gloriously sunny city slash country for my milestone birthday had to be put on hold. That was hella bummer. But I’m trying my best to roll with it.
As a stop gap until I go on my make-up trip, I celebrated my birthday at a cool little inn at Nanoose Bay on the island, just 13 kilometres from Nanaimo.
