2009: A Retrospective

As the year draws to a close, I thought I’d take this opportunity to look back at all the awesome/not awesome things that happened to me in 2009.

This post is inspired by my friend, the wonderful Kimli and her year in review post. The girl is rad. I would be lucky if I was half as funny and as entertaining a blogger as she is. Thx Kimli!

Drum roll, please.

January: Opened the year with a cold caught from Christmas in London with Michelle. Being hit by wall of sound from Glasvegas. Mixing bows and arrows with Texas hold’em poker. The infamous blogger night that started it all.

February: Playing the satorialist at the opera. Pondering on when I’m gonna start loving my birthday again? Friday the 13th archery. Flash mob fail and male go go dancers for Peggy’s birthday.

March: Took on my first ninja girl assignment. Relieved that I didn’t come off like a nimrod for newspaper interviews. My fave opera of last season: Rigoletto. Facebook and Twitter fan appreciation night. FIRST DATE WITH SEAN. More Texas hold’em poker archery.

April: Bluebells, daffodils and duck ponds. Three year anniversary of not eating meat. Speaking of anniversaries, my blog turned one. My return as the ninja girl.

May: Invading the radiowaves. Trying not to freak out, speaking on a panel in front of 275 people. The Horrors and The Kills double bill fantastic. Us archers are real goofballs.

June: Getting a skintastic eyeful of a Craiglist rendezvous’er, whilst picnic’ing. Hanging out with real life manga characters. Flying on a teeny tiny twin turbo to the island.

July: Avoiding the Canada Day drunken hoo-ha and opting for a day with wildlife instead. Hanging out with the real life Alice in Wonderland characters. Staycation I and staycation II.  Chasing down the rave-mobile with Peggy.

August: Roadtrip to David Lynch‘s land of the weird. Blast from the past with dippee-mo-dee. Hanging out with (real life) zombies. And Michael Jackson. A day of animal therapy and getting lost in the cornfield.

September: A sworn pinky oath over key lime pie, banana and chocolate bread pudding and chocolate pecan pie.

October: Seeing wizard trees, wild things and pipe cleaner flowers at Van Dusen. Playing hooky from work to drive up to WhistlerEvil Dead musical (the Goliath version). Doing unspeakable acts of savagery on innocent pumpkins.

November: Meeting Emily Strange and her bloody crumpets. Evil Dead Musical (the David version). Channeling our best creepy ass macabre girls for halloween.

December: Adopting Jonesy. Rented shoes at Christmas bowlerama. PROMOTION!

Now looking at it all in one place, my year turned out to be pretty darn good. The 3 things that dominated 2009 was work, school and Sean. All pretty positive things, especially Sean.

And although I didn’t get on a plane after coming back from London on January 1, I did have a few mini getaways/day trips which was crucial for my sanity. Course, moving and building everything from scratch clipped my wings significantly this year. But now that I’m settled and furniture’s been bought, I’m definitely going to remedy the traveling bit for 2010.

So as we say goodbye to the naughties and say hello to a new decade, I’m excited about what might be around the corner. And that starts tomorrow night with the full moon/blue moon combo that will herald in the new year at midnight.

Wishing everyone a joyous new decade!

What a year you have had! I like reading re-caps and seeing all the wondrous things people have done/experienced.

I’ve spent the first two days of 2010 cleaning out our spare bedroom, grocery shopping and baking for Tom. It feels like a good start. And I wish you one as well!
