Hippo!
That was Sean’s reaction upon seeing hippos at the Vancouver Zoo this past weekend.
The zoo has around 600 animals spread out on 120 acres of land. Before Sean and I knew it, three hours had passed by, we were enjoying ourselves so much. Going to the zoo was our opportunity to let loose our inner child. I got a real kick watching Sean’s face light up, as he came across animals he’s never seen before in real life.
What gave me my perma-smile were the white arctic foxes (lil guy was so hyper!), the lemur cuddle pile, the wallabies and the giraffes with their long eyelashes. I have a soft spot for giraffes.
It was a purr-fect way to spend a Saturday afternoon: sun, a nature walk, hanging out with the animals and my guy.
As Sean and I are both animal lovers, I thought it would be a great idea that my anniversary gift to him and myself, was to symbolically adopt animals from World Wildlife Fund. Doing this would also support WWF’s conservation efforts around the world.
I symbolically adopted a grizzly bear for Sean and a panda bear for myself. Each adoption kit comes with a cuddly toy, a re-useable gift bag made from recycled plastic, a personalized adoption certificate and a report detailing the work the adoption will support.
By the time we left the zoo and went for dinner, we were pooped! The indian food gave us a bit of a second wind but we were only up for a mellow night after our big day out.
And what else could end our anniversary day so purr-fectly? Andd continue the animal theme? Watching The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
(Oh and points for those who know where the title of my post came from. Hint: John Hughes)
