Last night Sean took me to Hapa Izakaya for my birthday dinner. Hapa is yum-in-a-nutshell and great for special occasions. I suppose yesterday was as good a reason as any!
It’s been a while. In fact, the last time we went to Hapa was last spring.
For starters, we ordered albacore tuna goma-ae with feta cheese tossed in a wasabi sesame sauce:
Then the tuna carpaccio, fresh thinly sliced ahi tuna served with slightly spicy yuzu dressing.
Followed by the ebi mayo, which are tempura wild Mexican white prawns served with spicy mayo sauce. I LOVE Japanese mayo. I can put that on EVERYTHING.
Then the seared Qualicum Beach scallops, with mushroom soy butter balsamic sauce.
And last but not least caramel pudding for dessert.
Then we headed over to Scotiabank theatre for Back to the Future. Sean and I love this movie. And we weren’t the only ones. The theatre was packed with other nostalgic nerds. The movie was presented in 2K digital and it looked amazing. Even better than when I first saw it in the theatre in 1985.
I think I had a perma-smile on my face the entire movie. So many great scenes. So many memorable lines. Zing!
I sometimes can’t believe that I lucked out with someone who’s just as cornball as I am. And if Sean and I had days off, we would’ve be spending it at the Digital Film Fest watching Alien, Aliens, Big Trouble in Little China and The Goonies this past weekend. He’s a keeper.
(I’ll overlook the fact that he declined when I suggested the Sing-a-Long Sound of Music coming to town in April)
Thanks for a wonderful birthday Sean! x
