A little levity from the weekend. I think it’s safe to say that I blew all of my friends’ minds about my not working at the VO anymore.
On Saturday, Tracey, Peggy and I went to the Secret Garden Tea Company for high tea. It was also to celebrate Peggy’s birthday last week.
We all ordered the high tea service which cost $26.95 per person. For her tea, Peggy ordered the jasmine dragon tea, Tracey got the creamy earl grey and I got the English breakfast. I know, I know, I have ALL these teas to pick from and I choose English breakfast. What can I say? I’m a traditionalist when it comes to my cuppa!
High tea came with an assortment of:
Mini sandwiches: egg salad pinwheels, brie and tomato scones, devilled ham bread, roasted veggies with goat cheese pesto.
Banana nut loaf and mini cranberry scones served with raspberry jam and Devon cream.
Sweets: lemon tarts, chocolate dipped marshmallow squares topped with a strawberry and apple butter tarts.
The time at Secret Garden flew by quickly. It was our first time there and we found the place cozy and bright. Secret Garden also has a retail side to it where you can buy individual bags of tea, tea sets for children, sock monkey dolls, tea pots and other kitschy tea paraphernalia.
The high tea service definitely hit the spot and fuelled us for going to The Wellness Show at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Tracey and Peggy were all gung-ho about The Wellness Show, sampling everything and buying up a storm. And me? Although I’m interested in all things health, I didn’t quite dive in like they did. I did however, found some things amusing.
Hippie/alternative lifestyle vendors were exhibiting alongside Steve Nash Fitness, Choices Market and organic pet foods. There were vendors hawking bio-energy therapy, Wiccan and Krishna cook books (and Hare Krishnas, too). A couple of women that were dressed like friar tucks were at the show to promote some brotherhood of humanity philosophy. and a school of Sufi whirling.
As I am absolutely fascinated by whirling dervishes, I was trying to command them telepathically to “whirl, dervish, whirl for me!” because they had already performed twice earlier and would not be whirling until again Sunday. It didn’t work and instead they gave me a pamphlet to come down and learn Sufi whirling. Alas, for an x/y compromised person, I’d most likely hurl if I attempted this.
This keyboard gave me a giggle. I’m sure lots of people my generation will be making use of this when our eyesight start to falter. Being the internet generation and all. Or we could just use it now to be different.
I’m all for new therapies and such, but someone please tell me what the heck is this all about? It looks like some sorta space blanket!
Biomats producing infrared rays which apparently heal all sorts of ailments.
Peggy and Tracey partook in the reflexology and shiatsu massage. They both were like spaghetti afterwards.
With legs and torsos like wobbly jelly, we closed out The Wellness Show and went in search of some grub at Cascade. Next thing you know, 3 1/2 hours flew by and it was just before midnight.
On Sunday, it was my turn to be feted, as I met up with Lilli, Linda, Jackie and Val for a belated birthday lunch at The Wallflower.
The girls weekend definitely made up for my not too pleasant Wednesday. Best of all, I had my girls giving me support and encouragement for my next endeavour. It was nice to have, as I now start into week one of my severance package.
