Waking up the next morning after the ms Amsterdam docked, I was greeted with this view! Nice, right?
After the back-to-back cruise fails, I was happy to get back onto land. Then I found that I was stricken with landsickness. (more on that later). Hoping that the “swaying on the inside” would subside soon, I taxi’d downtown to spend the day there, before meeting up with my friends, Steve and Tam after work.
First stop was riding the monorail to the nearby Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum (EMP|SFM). Not to worship at the altar of Nirvana and grunge music’s permanent collection, but to see the Battlestar Galactica exhibition. Oh, yeaaaa.
The exhibit, which runs until march 4, 2012, features:
* 3 full size spaceships: Viper Mark 2, Viper Mark 7 and a Cylon raider
* 15 costumes
* Dozen props, concept sketches and storyboards
* Exhibition films and interactives
It wasn’t very crowded on the Friday afternoon, so it was fairly easy to see everything close up. I’d totally recommend going if you’re a BSG fan.
Another exciting little tidbit to mark on the calendar: Avatar exhibit is coming in June!
After the EMP|SFM, I headed over to Chinatown. well, specifically Maynard Street to check out the Seattle pinball museum.
A museum that features pinball machines? This absolutely thrilled the teenage girl in me who used to go to the arcades after school. Admission is $7, but that gets you unlimited pinball play on all the machines. The owner was nice enough to let me take pictures as I didn’t have a ton of time to play all of them and was on my way to meet Steve and Tam.
There was a very cool Twilight Zone pinball machine that I would’ve loved to play, as well as one on Space Invaders, Flash Gordon, and yes, Johnny Mnemonic (to name but a few).
So many pinball machines, so little time! I felt like a kid in a candy store.
I have GOT to come back here next time I’m in town.
