Thank You NFSW Friends!

The things I learned about working in the digital realm at EA:

1. Relationships are cultivated. You get to know early on who your advocates are.

2. Trolls exist due to the anonymity of the internet.

3. Most of your audience are lurkers. They follow your content but rarely make themselves known.

And on that note, when I posted a goodbye message on the NFSW website, facebook and twitter, I did wonder what kind of reaction my leaving would get. Apart from my regulars who I chat with on a daily/weekly basis, I had no idea what kind of impact I had on the community.

I admit, I was apprehensive about checking the comments. There are days when I came across so much negativity on our channels, (eg. due to server outages, price of cars etc.), it was almost enough for me to throw in the towel. I never did though, but the feeling of needing to be in the right frame of mind in order to deal with such negativity never went away.

Would they say I was an awful community manager who contributed nothing to NFSW? Would they be glad I was leaving? Would anyone even care?

Well, the trepidation turned out to be unwarranted.

I was overwhelmed by the flood of positive comments and messages. I had told my regulars a week before my last day of work, but for the rest of the community, they didn’t know I was leaving until my that very day. Oh, there were rumours online but neither the producer or myself ever addressed it. Until my goodbye post.

So after much thought, and the fact that I’m no longer on the NFSW channels, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their lovely comments and for a great send-off.
