A Comfort Food Lover

I am not a foodie, by any means. I have friends who will seek out new restaurants in order to try everything on the menu, the more unusual, the better. For example, chomping down on bone marrow at a hoity-toity restaurant. As for me, I enjoy food enough, but I am hardly experimental. A big part of it being that I’m a pescetarian. Almost 6 years now.

The other reason would be that I’ve always been a bit of a fussy eater. I’ll take my comfort food over fusion-esque food any day. And even though I’m Chinese, that doesn’t mean I have a taste for tongue, tripe or chicken feet.

But what I do like, I like a lot and become enough of a regular that servers remember me, if not by name, then by the dish I normally order.

The one disadvantage living out here in the ‘burbs is the lack of good restaurants. Sean and I were shocked to find out that there isn’t even an Indian restaurant in Coquitlam. Oh, really?! There’s also a lack of breakfast places, not including Denny’s or IHOP.

I am glad though, that working in Vancouver means I can grab take-out from any of my favourite places after work and enjoy it in the comfort of our home.

So this is a fun, little “foodie” post on my favourite haunts in Vancouver:

Brunch/lunch:
* Biercraft (was stella’s)
* Lucy’s Diners
* Marulilu
* The Wallflower

Dinner:
* Hapa Izakaya – best ebi mayo and seared scallops!
* Sushiholic
* Tokyo John
* Floata Seafood
* Sun Sui Wah
* Dai Tung
* Kirin Seafood
* Chongqing – spicy asparagus!
* Kwong Chow Congee & Noodle House – seafood with flat rice noodles!
* Akbar’s Own
* Banana Leaf
* Tropika
* Sweet Revenge Patisserie

And not to seem like I’m having a dig on the ‘burbs, as there are advantages too. We’re saving money on dining out. We get to try out new restaurants in the neighbourhood. And lastly, I’m inspired to cook now that I have a big kitchen with tons of counter space.
