The past few years, Sean and I would celebrate Earth Hour by ourselves. We would have dinner by candlelight and then walk around the neighbourhood, pointing at houses with lights on and tsk-tsk’ing. It was a fun opportunity for us to be all judgmental-like.
This year, however, we brought our “lights out” tradition to Dustin and Kristina’s house, as they had never observed before. They had invited us to dinner prior to knowing what day it was and were troopers for indulging us with our annual thing-to-do. Even the kidlets got into it, once they got over their fear of being in the dark. I sympathized because I used to be scared of black-outs when I was little too.
