I have a soft spot for little piglets. Blame it on my befriending a little pig, when I was in Maui for my friend’s wedding. A grocer, close to where we were staying, had one as a pet. And every day, when we stopped in for supplies, the little piggy would come running up to greet me. Pigs are so smart, friendly and ever so sociable.
Even if I went back to eating meat (which I can’t see myself doing), I could never again dine on pork. I adore pigs too much.
So when I found out that Bakerview Ecodairy in Abbotsford had piglets in their petting zoo, well, I just had to do the 45 minutes drive there to see them. At the public area of the Ecodairy, you could interact with miniature ponies, sheep, calves, turkeys, pigs and goats in their pen. You may even see goats climb up on the roof.
You’d have to pay for admission to see more, such as the Friesian horses and cows, Vitala chickens, a tour of the learning centre, testing lab, robotic milker and the anaerobic digester, which uses manure to create electricity, cow bedding and organic fertilizer.
But since we got there an hour before closing, we opted to hang out at the free petting zoo. Besides the animals were too cute and friendly to pass up. It’s true – animals are better than humans.
Here are some pics:
This calf could not stop licking on the bars or us.
Little oinker being, well, a cliche.
Sleepytime piggies.
Goats on the roof!
