Just thinking about hotels conjure up longings of travel for me, so it should be of no surprise, that I would want to check out the Grand Hotel: Redesigning Modern Life exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The New Yorker in me loves that Vancouver Art Gallery has a by-donation day. In this case, Tuesday evenings between 5pm-9pm. So, Sean and I made it a date night with dinner at the cafe and then taking in the exhibit.
Here’s some pics of what I thought was most interesting at this homage to hotels exhibit:
From our perch on the second floor.
Model of Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
Self-portait of Wilke at Chateau Marmont, where she kept a studio.
Warhol filming Chelsea Girls at the Chelsea Hotel, NYC
Overall, it was interesting, if somewhat limited. There seemed to be too much space and not enough pieces to fill it. But it did do its trick – which I’m sure was to inspire one to set off and travel after leaving The Grand Hotel. Where to now?
