My mom and I have been trying to organize a trip to China for the past few years, but for some reason or another, it always fell through. This year, however, we’re going!
For my mom, it’ll be the first time going back since she immigrated to Canada in the 70s. For me, it’ll be the first time going to Asia. This is sure to be interesting.
We’ll be going to Beijing, Xian, Wuxi, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai. Plus a side trip to Chengdu for myself.
I can barely contain my excitement at the thought of seeing the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, terracotta warriors, “The Venice of the Orient,” the pandas, the French Concession and more!
And besides being a mother/daughter bonding trip (I hope!), I’m also looking forward to taking my mom back to the motherland. I believe that she should see her home country again. Although she was born in China and raised in Hong Kong, she’s never been to any of the places we’ll be visiting. It’ll be like me being born in Vancouver but not visiting anywhere else in Canada.
It’s time for that to be corrected! I just can’t believe that it’s coming up so fast!
