Can I just say, oh what a night!?
I got to be one of the thousands to went to The Empire Strikes Back event by Secret Cinema tonight and it was an amazing experience! Hands down, one of the funnest public activity I’ve EVER participated in.
To enforce their social media blackout, all attendees had their cell phones heat-sealed in a foil wallet for the entire duration of the immersive experience. And thank the ceiling. It would’ve been hella annoying having blue screens waving about and dominating one’s visual field. Also, you’re left completely surprised, having know nothing about what was on the docket.
I am still awestruck by the magnitude of this epic production, That I can’t even clearly articulate just how awesome it was. So I’m going to post these links, pictures and video to give you an idea of what it was like. Prepare to be wowed.

The prepwork was just as fun as the experience itself. To be given a rebel alliance identity and costume and prop recommendations. You don’t have to dress up, but why the hell not? Secret Cinema even had their own pop-up store in Shoreditch to outfit members of the alliance.
A secret communications website also provided a personalized rebelX ID card (with name, rank), interactive maps, video transmissions, a chatroom to connect with other rebels and other need to know information.
Here are some screen grabs:
Based on my test score, I was going as a Governor of the Alliance. I was secretly hoping for mercenary (because Han Solo), starfighter (jumpsuit!), or creative council (cape!).
I swear, Secret Cinema went all out. No expense was spared on this production.
Although it was pricey – it was the cost of an opera ticket – it was worth EVERY penny. So much fun. I only wished I could’ve brought all my friends who are Star Wars fans to this experience.
