Do you remember where you were and what you were doing on January 11, 2016?
I do. I’ll always remember that date because that was the day when David Bowie died. I was at work, online, when the interwebs lit up like a Christmas tree with news of his untimely passing. And I remember still feeling gutted days afterwards.
Six months after his death, and I get the opportunity to visit London again? Well, I just had to make the pilgrimage to Brixton and pay my respects at the David Bowie mural.
The mural, which can be found at Morley’s Department Store (located on the wall of Brixton Road), is easy to get to. Just take the Victoria line to its last stop, Brixton station.
Australian street artist, James Cochran, painted David Bowie a la Aladdin Sane album cover in 2013 – complete with the iconic lightning bolt make-up. I’m sure, little did he know, that years later, it would become the shrine where fans from all over the world would leave their flowers, tributes and messages of love to Brixton’s most famous son.
David Bowie, you are forever missed.
