Ah, airport hotels. I got to say I’ve started to love them when I’m traveling. First Bloc Hotel and Yotel Air at London’s Gatwick airport, And now, Citizen M Hotel at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
They are super convenient for me, as I’m not so good with the waking up early to catch my flight home. Having to worry about traffic or public transport snafus and getting to my flight stressed out is not a good way to fly. Citizen M is, literally, a 5 minute walk to the airport.
And the biggest reason? There are some really modern, stylish, trendy, tech-friendly airport hotels nowadays! Sure – they’re much smaller in size than some regular hotels, but I’d trade room size and onsite restaurant, pool, spa and other expensive amenities for free, super fast WIFI, rain or monsoon shower heads, free movies on demand on a big ass LED TV and cutting edge technology, like an iPad that controls the lights, heat, A/C, window blinds and check out process. I love the smart-room concept and the branding by KK Los Angeles.
I should mention that I love airport hotels/capsule hotels when I’m traveling by myself. Staying here would not work with Sean, as he’s not big on such tight quarters, and especially not with a shower and toilet right in the middle of the room.
BTW, I was upgraded to a bigger room with a completely enclosed shower and toilet – not one that was silo’d a la Star Trek‘s beam me up transporter, because the staffer who had cleaned and prepped my room had a serious case of bad BO.
I really love all their little touches, not just in the room, but also within the hotel:
If you’ve grown up watching and dreaming of a world like the Jetsons, you’ll like staying at Bloc Hotel and Citizen M. We’re living in the future!
