The Killers returned to Vancouver last week with their Wonderful Wonderful tour!
It has and hasn’t been a while. The band was here for 2016’s Pemberton Festival and then surprised fans with a last minute, intimate-as-hell, concert at the Commodore the day before. Needless to say, the 995 persons capacity at the Commodore was sold out even before the tickets even went on sale! Scandal!
The Killers once again played at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre out at UBC. This time, Sean was able to come with and was able to see I love this band so much. And why I always try to catch their shows. The Killers are amazing live performers!
Frontman Brandon Flowers was chatty, enthusiastic and so obviously happy to be performing for us. Ever the showman, fashion plate Flowers in his gold and glitzy lamé suit with rhinestones, reminded me of Bono during his Mephistopheles, or rather, his MacPhesto phase – but without the white pan make up, eyeshadow, red lipstick and devils horns. The visual effects were on blast and plentiful, ranging from videos, confetti canons, lasers, neon lights and a curtain of fireworks.
The vibe at the concert was so fun. A large percentage of the crowd were uni students and millennials. and can I say they were so much better behaved than the 40-something adults that we encountered at the Depeche Mode concert?
Seriously, if The Killers ever had a residency in their hometown of Vegas, I’m sure every night’s concert would be an absolute sell-out. And if one day, they do, you can bet I would see them when I’m in Vegas. They are glitzy, glam and grand – just purr-fect for a residency show in Vegas!
The Killers never disappoint and Sean and I are excited to see them again next time.
