Slam it to the left. If you’re having a good time. Shake it to the right. If you know that you feel fine. Chicas to the fronts. Ha, ha. Go round.
Spice up your life!
2018 marks the 20th anniversary of Spice World, starring the worldwide phenomenon that is the Spice Girls. There was no escape from Spice-mania. If you were a teenager or young adult in the late 90s, and not living under a rock, you’d probably have at least one favourite Spice Girls song and member of the band.
For me, I liked a lot of the songs they released and my favourite was Mel C. aka Sporty Spice.
And to celebrate the Spice World anniversary and girl power in general, my friend Kimli organized a group of us to watch the cinematic masterpiece at the cineplex in the VIP theatre.
We filled nearly 2 rows and enjoyed all the food and drinks, while watching this gloriously campy, cult movie filled with hokey acting and plot-holed storylines.
The movie is of a certain time, that’s for sure. But it served as a nice stroll down amnesia lane, when everything that was coming out of Great Britain was gold. Cool Britannia. And being a massive Anglophile, I revelled in this second British invasion.
Plus more importantly, it also reminded me of when me and my girlfriends were that young and carefree, looking out for and standing up for each other, clubbing, raving and having silly adventures. Plus the clothes. Who could ever forget the 90s look?
