The last time I saw Erasure in concert was 1990 for their Wild! tour. I believe that may have been their only time they came to Vancouver and I remember it as being fun as all heck.
This time around the venue was more intimate, the crowd was much older and like the New Order concert four years ago, we all fell head long into a musical time capsule and danced our collective asses off, while belting out the songs along with Andy Bell.
Speaking of Andy Bell, he’s lost none of that flamboyant stage presence. He came onto the stage in layers – a jacket with dried paint drips from the shoulders, worn on top of a graphic t-shirt and flowery skirt, worn on top of a tattooed leotard. And as the show progressed, he would strip off until he was down to nothing but the body leotard.
Erasure’s two back-up singers were sisters. Their looks reminded me of the movie, Fifth Element – a fun take on Leeloo (red wig) and of Diva Plavalaguna (in blue tuxedo outfit). No, just me?

The stage may have been simple, but dig on the synced neon lights working to amp us all up.
Here’s the World Be Gone setlist:
The concert was a blast and a excellent stroll down amnesia lane, even if it felt a little high-school reunion-ish. Hopefully it won’t take another 18 years for Erasure to come back to Vancouver.
