I attended the inaugural VR/AR Global Summit Conference, held at the Parq Hotel and Casino, and got a crash course and an eye-opening glimpse of all the cool tech currently being used or developed in the virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) space.
The 2 day conference featured speakers from HTC Vive, TELUS, Mayo Clinic, Intel, Ford, Adobe, Amazon, and Microsoft. There were lots to take in, what with keynotes, panels, workshops, exhibits and demos.
Disclaimer: I volunteered to help out at the VR/AR Global Summit, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to afford the $899 non-member full conference pass (!). The work was minimal and I was able to take in a lot of the keynotes, so score!
Some pics from day 2 of VR/AR Global Summit:
Quantum Capture’s Craig Alguire talking about virtual influencer, Lil Miquela. By the way, she’s not even human. She’s a robot. A robot with 1 million+ millennial and gen Z followers.
VFX compositor and colourist Jeff Olm (left) discussing Jaunt VR‘s cinematic virtual reality projects during the Producing in XR: What to Know about Immersion panel. Olms also shared a virtual tour of the flight carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Persian Gulf. Check out their other VR Go Anywhere experiences.
MediaCombo CEO, Michael Owen, talking about his company’s use of virtual reality technology to extend the life of a museum exhibition.
Some pics from the demo/product floor:
I try my hand at rescuing cute digital kitties from King Kong, or rather, Kitty Kong. Developers Shape Immersive teamed up with Axiom Zen to bring CryptoKitties, the most successful blockchain game, into the mixed reality world.
Trying out Tap with Us, a bluetooth enabled wearable keyboard.
VR Gaming at the Arkave booth.
