It’s been over 3 months since BC declared a state of emergency. We’ve learned to live with stay in place orders, waited patiently for essentials (and luxuries) to become stocked up in grocery stores, and dealt with not being able to come in close contact with loved ones.
Although it’s been anxiety-inducing and inconvenient, life slowing down has allowed us to gain a new perspective and realize just how connected we all are.
There is a lot to still be grateful for here in BC:
- Our low COVID-19 numbers
- Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry
- Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam
- BC residents complying to social distancing and donning masks when out
- PM Trudeau making available funds to help businesses, renters, and those without work
- No Karens or Kens ruining it for everyone
On a more micro note, I’m extremely thankful for:
- Our health (luckily I don’t know of anyone who has come down with COVID-19)
- Sean and our 3 furry faces
- Being able to work from home (oh, and having a job!)
- Where I live – in BC and in particular, my neighbourhood
It’s now summer in Vancouver. The flowers are still blooming and we’re still doing our near daily walks, which has helped to manage my anxiety.
We’ve also now reached phase 3 of BC’s re-opening plan. That means hotels, resorts, RV parks and other accommodations can resume operating, and that residents are now free to travel around provincially.
When that was announced, it was akin to (in my mind, at least): “Folks, we’ve just hit our cruising altitude of 35,000 feet. Seat belt signs have been turned off, which means you are now free to move about the cabin.”
Can you tell I miss travelling? We may not be at the stage of international travel, but it’s a start. Yet another thing to be thankful for.
