It’s been a hot minute since our horseback riding experience with Glen Valley Stables. Three years in fact. Where does the time go?
We still in phase 3 of BC’s restart plan, which means we’re still discouraged to travel outside the province. And I suspect, won’t be for a long while yet. So with summer vacation plans dashed, I had to come up with other ways to spend my days off. One of those ways was to go connect with our equine friends again.
We booked an hour horseback ride through Campbell Valley Park one hot afternoon. The folks at Glen Valley followed provincial guidelines and had COVID protocols in place like sanitizing helmets, reins, and saddles, having all riders sanitize their hands before getting on the horses, and limiting the amount of riders in each time slot.
Although this was an outdoor activity and we would all be physically distanced during the ride through Campbell Valley Park, Sean and I still opted to wear our masks. We were the only ones in our group of 6 who did and we didn’t care how ridiculous we may have looked. Safety first in the time of the ‘rona, non?
I was paired with Shine, while Sean was paired with Traveller. We rode through trails and old growth rainforest, the leaves providing a canopy from the searing sun. It was fun being close to horses again.

Not a shabby way to spend a summer afternoon. Until next time, my equine friends.
